The Arbitration and Mediation Center of Armenia (AMCA) has launched a training course for the Center’s arbitrators and lawyers. The purpose of the event is to present to lawyers and AMCA arbitrators the role of the arbitrator, rules of conduct, responsibilities, as well as the entire process of conducting arbitral proceedings. The opening remarks of the training course were delivered by Tatevik Matinyan, Director of the Arbitration and Mediation Center of Armenia, and Lilit Petrosyan, Deputy Director. “Such events provide professionals with an opportunity not only to acquire new knowledge, but also to share their experience and build new partnerships, thus contributing to the development of the culture of arbitration and mediation in Armenia,” noted Tatevik Matinyan.
During the first part of the day, detailed information was presented on the role and responsibilities of the arbitrator, rules of conduct, the AMCA Arbitration Rules, as well as the grounds for challenge. In the second part, Hayk Kupelyants, Member of the AMCA Arbitration Council, PhD in Law, and Lecturer at King’s College London, presented the examination of an arbitration case and the procedural details. The participants also discussed the fundamentals of preparing and conducting arbitral hearings, evaluating evidence, and drafting arbitral awards. “Arbitration and mediation processes are of great importance within the ADR system, and our goal is to equip professionals with the necessary knowledge and skills so that they can resolve disputes effectively,” noted Hayk Kupelyants. The first day concluded with a question-and-answer session and a professional discussion between the participants and the speaker. The second day of the training course commenced with remarks by AMCA Deputy Director Lilit Petrosyan, who presented the details of conducting arbitral proceedings based on the AMCA Arbitration Rules. She addressed the stages of arbitral proceedings, the actions undertaken by arbitrators and the Center at each stage, as well as the rendering of an arbitral award that would not be subject to annulment. The templates developed by AMCA, including model samples of the protocol on procedural conduct, arbitral awards, and other documents, were also presented and discussed.
During the second part of the day, participants had the opportunity to discuss several practical situations related to the validity of arbitration agreements, the scope of matters arbitrable in the Republic of Armenia, the grounds for setting aside arbitral awards, and other issues. This training course became a platform for professionals to acquire new skills, exchange experience, and establish valuable cooperation.
