The Third Annual Armenian International Arbitration Week in Yerevan
On September 4th the Third Annual Armenian International Arbitration Week has officially commenced in Yerevan, bringing together leading experts in arbitration and mediation, including lawyers, academics, business representatives, and public officials. The week features panel discussions, side events, and extensive networking opportunities.
The opening ceremony featured remarks by high-level dignitaries, including the Minister of Justice of the Republic of Armenia, Ms. Srbuhi Galyan, and the Chair of the Supreme Judicial Council of the Republic of Armenia, Mr. Artur Atabekyan, who warmly welcomed the participants and emphasized the strategic importance of arbitration and mediation to Armenia’s legal system. Ms. Srbuhi Galyan noted that, for the third consecutive year, this international week has brought together experts from Armenia and abroad, promoting arbitration and mediation as reliable and effective mechanisms for dispute resolution. She also highlighted the ongoing efforts aimed at strengthening a modern, trustworthy, and comprehensive justice system that supports both economic growth and international cooperation. Mr. Artur Atabekyan emphasized that the event serves as an important platform for dialogue among the legal community, the business sector, and international partners. He noted that arbitration is now at the center of global attention as a modern, reliable, and effective mechanism for dispute resolution, shaping the future agenda of dispute resolution in Armenia and beyond.
The keynote address was delivered by Dr. Johannes Koepp, Partner at Baker Botts and Department Chair – International Disputes (Firmwide), who presented a vision for building a strong arbitration community, highlighted the pivotal role of Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR), and shared insights on international trends shaping dispute resolution in Armenia and globally.
This year, the event hosted around 500 participants and 42 speakers from around 20 countries. In addition to the main conference, around 10 events were also held during the arbitration week.
