AMCA at London International Disputes Week

2024-06-03

From 3 to 7 June, Tatevik Matinyan, Director of the Arbitration and Mediation Center of Armenia, and Deputy Director Lilit Petrosyan participated in London International Disputes Week. LIDW brought together more than 7,000 representatives from different parts of the world.

As part of the programme, they attended the main conference, held under the theme Uniting for Global Challenge and Opportunity. This prominent gathering brought together senior members of the judiciary, leading international practitioners, and business leaders to discuss the evolving landscape of dispute resolution. The keynote address was delivered by the Rt Hon. the Baroness Carr of Walton-on-the-Hill, Lady Chief Justice of England and Wales. The panel discussions addressed, among other topics, the role of artificial intelligence in law, the enforcement of cross-border judgments and arbitral awards, challenges related to dispute funding, and opportunities in the funding market across the United Kingdom, the European Union, and beyond.

On the following day, Tatevik Matinyan and Lilit Petrosyan participated in GAR Live: ISDS 2024, an interactive conference co-chaired by Ruth Byrne of King & Spalding and Christopher Harris KC of 3VB. The event served as a platform for practitioners to exchange views on recent developments in investor-State dispute settlement (ISDS). With contributions from professionals across Europe and other jurisdictions, including arbitrators, counsel, expert witnesses, and in-house legal teams, the conference examined current trends and challenges in investor-State disputes.

Another session, held on 6 June, was dedicated to AI disputes under the theme Navigating Legal and Technical Issues in AI Disputes. The panelists reflected on the challenges arising from the rapidly evolving regulatory landscape and technical constraints, using a hypothetical AI system as the basis for discussion. Participants also explored how parties can mitigate risks when contracting for AI and anticipate potential litigation risks.

London International Disputes Week proved to be a valuable and effective platform for exchanging knowledge on emerging trends and practices in arbitration, while also creating opportunities for meaningful professional networking.
