AMCA Representatives Participated in Dubai Arbitration Week

2024-11-15

From November 11 to 15, 2024, Dubai Arbitration Week (DAW) brought together arbitration professionals, representatives of arbitral institutions, and other experts from around the world. With more than 140 events and participants from over 50 countries, this year’s DAW was the largest in the history of the initiative.

The event was organized by the Dubai International Arbitration Centre (DIAC), together with a number of local and international partners, transforming the platform into a globally significant meeting point for the arbitration community. The active participation of the Arbitration and Mediation Center of Armenia (AMCA) in DAW highlighted Armenia’s growing role in the international arbitration landscape and contributed to raising the country’s visibility. AMCA was represented at the event by Director Tatevik Matinyan, Deputy Director Lilit Petrosyan, and Public Relations Officer Vardan Lablajyan. They presented the Center’s objectives and functions to organizers and participants, marking an important step toward strengthening bilateral relations and fostering new partnerships. Within the framework of DAW, Tatevik Matinyan held a separate meeting with Jehad Kazim, Executive Director of the Dubai International Arbitration Centre. The discussion focused on the development of arbitration in Armenia and the wider region, as well as on strengthening the role of women in the field. Tatevik Matinyan presented AMCA’s vision of becoming an international platform and proposed the implementation of joint initiatives with DIAC. She also invited Jehad Kazim to Armenia to speak and share her experience with Armenian professionals.

This initiative may prove significant in strengthening Armenia’s position as a regional arbitration center. The agenda of DAW 2024 covered a range of important topics related to the development and modernization of the arbitration field. During the opening of the event, DIAC’s leadership emphasized the importance of enhancing legal efficiency and deepening international cooperation. It was also noted that DAW has evolved into a platform where international organizations and leading professionals share their experience, thereby contributing to the development of global arbitration practice. Among the main themes highlighted during the event were the role of arbitration in strengthening regional cooperation, digital modernization and the use of artificial intelligence in arbitration, the expansion of women’s participation and leadership in arbitration practice, and the mechanisms for resolving international investment disputes. These topics are of particular importance from the perspective of strengthening the economic and investment environment, as well as advancing modern and efficient arbitration tools.

Through the efforts of Tatevik Matinyan, Lilit Petrosyan, and Vardan Lablajyan, the significance of AMCA as a reliable partner and regional platform attracted the attention of international organizations and partners. The contacts established and the mutual proposals for cooperation demonstrate that Armenia has the potential to become not only a regional, but also an internationally significant platform, ensuring a high level of trust and credibility in the field of arbitration.

As a multifaceted platform for the exchange of experience and professional cooperation, Dubai Arbitration Week provided the Arbitration and Mediation Center of Armenia with an opportunity to strengthen its ties with leading international partners and to further advance Armenia’s position in the arbitration field, thereby contributing to the enhancement of the country’s international reputation.
