The Second Annual International Arbitration Week in Armenia was concluded, the purpose of which was to bring together leading experts in the field of arbitration – lawyers, scientists, business representatives and other interested parties – to discuss the current topics of the field.

The best experts in the field shared their experience and skills. Such important topics as: prospects of arbitration were discussed. the analysis of opportunities and challenges in developing countries, the dynamics of arbitration; navigating the opportunities and challenges in emerging economies, the impact of technological advances on the future of arbitration, court and arbitration cooperation, the relationship between conciliation and arbitration, and other topics.

More than 200 participants from more than 20 countries of the world took part in the conference. The speakers were also selected from the world’s most famous and experienced specialists who have a stable position in the field. The official opening of the conference was carried out by the Minister of Justice of the Republic of Armenia, Grigor Minasyan, who welcomed the attendees, emphasized the importance of the event and the ongoing work that is being done to improve the ADR system. New York independent arbitrator, Chairman of AMCA Arbitration Council Grant Hanesian was the keynote speaker at the conference, who addressed the importance of arbitrator independence and impartiality, as well as when and how to exercise the duty of disclosure. The speaker also presented the RA developments related to arbitration and the activities of AMCA.

Tatevik Matinyan, director of the center, said: “Such events give professionals the opportunity not only to gain new knowledge, but also to share their experiences and create new partnerships, contributing to the development of the culture of arbitration and mediation in Armenia. The role of AMCA is to contribute to the strengthening of people’s confidence in alternative methods of dispute resolution”.

The arbitration week was not limited only to the international conference, it was followed by side events, which also aroused great interest among the participants.

As a summary of the Arbitration Week, AMCA conducted a series of trainings for large and medium businesses, bank representatives and lawyers on September 7-8. This course is an important step for lawyers and business representatives in developing their capacity to represent in arbitration and mediation matters. Tatevik Matinyan, director of the center, presented the “Arbitration and Mediation Center of Armenia”, its role and functions.
