The session brought together licensed mediators to find out the prospects and updates for mediation and to get answers to their questions from experienced mediation professionals. Legislation, current regulations and future changes were also discussed in this interactive discussion between the participants and the panelists. Panelists shared their experience with the participants and brought comparisons between other countries and the legislative regulations of the Armenia.

Panelists include:
Corrado Mora – When it comes to the importance of mediation, trust is the starting point. Going to mediation, not everyone knows people in the community. This is the common setting. A good idea is to go to mediation institutions, which have lists of mediators who can be suggested to people in disputes according to their needs and requirements.
In Italy, the importance of institutions grew after compulsory mediation was introduced. In this aspect, it was a game changer. It is fair to say that when it comes to mediation, mediation providers come to the forefront as gatekeepers of quality and good practice.
Anna Stylianou – Cooperation on every level is extremely important, between all stakeholders – government and institutions included. The main point and message is to use institutions, not fight them. One should see the potential of these institutions and cooperate.
Wolf von Kumberg – Common law jurisdictions, including the US, Canada, and Australia, don’t necessarily regulate everything through laws and acts. Often, there are no regulations whatsoever. This is where the role of institutions becomes significant. In these jurisdictions, institutions take on responsibilities such as establishing credibility, providing training, setting standards, creating codes of conduct, and enforcing discipline. In essence, mediation is built by these institutions.
Vanik Margaryan – At this stage, initiative, self-regulation, and continuous development are crucial for the growth of mediation in Armenia, especially with the upcoming compulsory mediation legislation.
From my own experience, mediation institutions are incredibly valuable. In a case I was involved in, the institution handled everything, making the process not only highly efficient but also smooth and stress-free. I didn’t have to worry about paperwork or logistics – the institution ensured everything was done properly, which really lightened my load. I was able to focus entirely on the mediation itself. The key is choosing a trustworthy institution.
