On October 12, a two-day training course for business representatives and lawyers started. The event was organized by AMCA with the aim of introducing lawyers to the importance and tools of alternative dispute resolution mechanisms. Tatevik Matinyan, director of AMCA, made an opening speech, emphasizing the modernity of the sector, and noted: “Arbitration and mediation are effective methods of dispute resolution, by promoting which AMCA also contributes to the development of a legal culture in our country, when dispute resolution becomes faster, more efficient, specialized and less expensive.” The role of arbitration and mediation institutions was discussed using the example of AMCA. The advantages of alternative dispute resolution methods and the importance of the lawyer’s role were analyzed. Procedural issues of arbitration and enforcement mechanisms were discussed in comparison with global practice. The second part of the program was dedicated to the remediation process. Within the framework of the program, the professionals of the field made a speech. Tatevik Matinyan, director of the AMCA, presented in detail the issues related to written communication in arbitration proceedings, the formation of the arbitration tribunal, the validity of the arbitration agreement, the recognition and enforcement of the arbitration award. Maria Petrosyan, senior lawyer-expert of the “Center of Legislation Development” Foundation, spoke on the topic of “Reforms of Mediation in Armenia”, who presented the implemented and planned reforms, the features of the qualification procedure for mediators and the prerequisites for the formation of a new culture of dispute resolution in Armenia. Davit Khachatryan, senior lawyer of AMCA, manager of arbitration cases, presented the advantages of resolving the dispute by arbitration, the importance of arbitration for business became a special topic of discussion, because disputes resolved quickly through arbitration contribute to the smooth development of business. In the second part of the program, Davit Gharibyan, deputy director of the “Center of Legislation Development” foundation, who is both a lawyer and a mediator, made a speech. The procedure for implementation of the mediation provided by RA legislation was discussed, as well as the various stages of the mediation process were analyzed with practical examples. The participants asked their questions, and at the end of the speech, they had a discussion about the challenges and problematic issues of the sector. As a summary of the day, the director of the Center, Tatevik Matinyan, answered the questions of interest to the participants, discussed the application of alternative dispute resolution methods and the prerequisites for their development in RA. Participants acquired practical skills in the field of alternative dispute resolution methods aimed at protecting the rights and legitimate interests of their clients.
